Spanish Courses at Simon Bolivar
Take the risk. Travel. Be immersed.
If you are reading this then you are in the right track. You are determined to know more about Ecuador, to seek out learning, to discover, to have a memorable experience.
You already know why it is important to learn Spanish (personal growth, work opportunities, broadening career, travelling, studies, etc.) Even more, we are getting ever more connected to people all around the world and language is the most important tool to cross cultural boundaries.
There are dozens of methods you could follow, but having a complete immersion program will make all the difference. Why?
Cultural immersion is nothing else than being in another place, where you are open to embrace a deeper understanding of a very different culture and benefit from the diversity of others' cultural backgrounds. Language is a very important door to understand how other society thinks, where its people come and where they are going. You are introduced to a different way of looking at the world, to see it through a cultural lens different from your own and thus gain a better understanding of human relations.
This is a process far from complicated. Even if you spend just a couple of days in an immersion program, you will gain a lot if you are open to actively participate. Enjoy exploring, asking, joining activities, making friends, sharing.
Learning a language up to any level is a valuable achievement in itself.
This is what you will experience at Simon Bolivar Spanish School: a style of teaching that will accommodate your personal needs and expectations, contextualized within our philosophy - that of bringing a complete language learning experience by combining knowledge, professionalism, classroom activities, out-of-school enriching visits, hands-on training, and much fun.

Spanish Language Programs and Courses
We have determined 10 Spanish levels, from Beginner to Advanced. These levels keep up with the ones established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: A1, A2, B1 ,B2, C1.
A unique resource for your lessons is to use our brand-new textbook “Viviendo el Español en Ecuador” especially designed for the first 3 levels (A1, A2 and B1). We have of course other materials available for upper levels. Our teachers are prepared to teach to the very beginners to the very advanced.
During the break, you can drink some coffee or tea with delicious fresh-baked bread and share some time with other students. In the afternoons, at 5pm, from Monday to Thursday, you can enjoy many student activities such as dancing, cooking, idiomatic expressions, Ecuadorian culture or cocktail lessons, sports, soccer games...
During your first hour of lessons you take a short test to evaluate your level, and then you work out a plan of study with your teacher, depending on your interests and needs.
Practice Spanish in and out of the classroom for a total experience!
Learning a language can be even more fun and enriching if you have the opportunity to interact with local people and visit interesting places. Imagine yourself in the market, looking at an enormous and colorful display of fresh fruit, or tasting a typical dish, while your teacher explains more about our traditions, expressions and vocabulary. You can walk around a colonial plaza and observe people in their daily chores. Practice your Spanish sitting in the park bench with your teacher and maybe a curious child that comes to say hello. Learn how to take the bus, ask for a special item in the supermarket, and have fun with the instructor while walking around. Very recommended!
Our main offer is One to One tuition. Why? The great majority of our students are solo travelers, with different levels, goals, needs and length of stay. Personalized and tailored lessons are the best method for learning with a high motivation.
The student becomes the main character in the learning process through innovative teaching methods, techniques, didactic materials and activities that are adapted to suit individual needs.
Many students worry about individual tuition thinking they won't be able to meet other students or get bored in class, but nothing is so far from the truth! You will have many opportunities to make friends at school and be surprised at how much fun you can have while learning Spanish with your teacher.
Based on our broad experience we can guarantee that you will be able to speak quite fluent Spanish after 4 or 6 weeks of study.
Classes can start on any weekday, always preferably on a Monday. Morning session is from 08:30 to 12:30 and the Afternoon session is from 13:00 to 17:00 (Quito) and from 14:00 to 18:00 (Cuenca). We always recommend 4 hours of instruction per day, though we can help you organize your course according to your free time. The hour of class is 55 minutes.
We also receive many friends, couples, siblings, or business partners travelling together, who have about the same level of Spanish and can enjoy the same class with one teacher. They also make a little test during the first hour of lessons so the teacher can adapt the course to their expectations. Lessons can start on any date, preferably on Monday. We always recommend 4 hours of instruction per day, though we can help you organize your course according to your free time. Each hour is 55 minutes.
We are able to form groups (max. 6 students) about two times per month. This type of course is only for complete beginners and given in the afternoon session. We usually require 4 weeks of study for group lessons (4 hours per day), though please contact us to ask about starting dates and availability for 1, 2 or 3 weeks. Each hour is 55 minutes.
Distance Spanish learning
Same methods we use for our individual lessons given in Ecuador are applied by the same professional teachers and our well established curriculum.
From Monday to Friday, we offer courses from 7:00am to 6:00pm Ecuador's time (UTC - 5 hours), which is the same hour throughout all year, since no DST (Daylight Saving Time) is applied in Ecuador. You can study from 1 hour per week, up to 2 hours per day.
Our teachers are very well trained to prepare students for the DELE exam, that is, Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language or Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera, an official document issued by the Spanish Instituto Cervantes and the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science to participants who pass a standardized test indicating Spanish language proficiency. We have all necessary material and experience to guarantee you will have an excellent grade when you take the exam.
